“DAVID BOWIE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL STAR!”, è un set di 5 CD e 1 Blu-Ray Audio che esplora il viaggio di David Bowie dal febbraio 1971 attraverso la creazione del personaggio di Ziggy Stardust.
Il cofanetto racchiude la registrazione dell’iconico THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS che cattura la vera e propria mania internazionale che circondava il fenomeno Ziggy sotto forma di sessioni radiofoniche e spettacoli televisivi nel Regno Unito, nonché brani dal vivo dello spettacolo del 1° ottobre 1972 di Ziggy and the Spiders al Boston Music Hall.
ROCK ‘N’ ROLL STAR!, contiene 29 brani inediti, cover di demo dei primi brani, registrazioni della band di David, The Arnold Corns, prove nell’allora casa di Bowie, la Haddon Hall, sessioni della BBC, singoli, esibizioni dal vivo, oltre ad outtakes e versioni alternative dalle sessioni di registrazione dell’album originale, che sono state nuovamente mixate dal produttore dell’album originale, Ken Scott.
I momenti salienti inediti includono una versione alternativa di ‘Lady Stardust’, una versione mai ascoltata del classico profondo ‘Shadow Man’ e una versione up-tempo di ‘I Can’t Explain’ degli Who, che in seguito Bowie avrebbe rallentato e coverizzato per l’album ‘PIN-UPS’.
Il disco Blu-Ray solo audio contiene la rimasterizzazione definitiva del 2012 dell’album originale di Ziggy Stardust in stereo PCM a 96kHz/24bit, più l’album e i mix aggiuntivi del 2003 in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, nonché i singoli, gli outtakes e le versioni alternative in stereo PCM a 96kHz/24 bit.
Il Blu-Ray include anche una versione dell’album ZIGGY STARDUST intitolato ‘WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH)’ tratto dai nastri del Trident Studio datati 15 dicembre 1971, che presenta un ordine di esecuzione alternativo e quattro canzoni che non sono rientrate nella versione finale dell’album. ‘WAITING IN THE SKY sarà inoltre disponibile anche come LP in vinile limitato il 20 aprile 2024 per il Record Store Day.
Inoltre, sempre il 14 Giungo uscirà una versione da 1 LP di ROCK ‘N’ ROLL STAR! che includerà le takes e i mix alternativi.
ROCK ‘N’ ROLL STAR! contiene anche due libri. Il primo è un ampio libro di 112 pagine con note di copertina dettagliate, cimeli, recensioni e articoli contemporanei, rare fotografie di Barrie Wentzel, Michael Putland, Mick Rock, Sukita e Alec Byrne, oltre a nuovissime note e interviste con Ken Scott, Mark Carr Pritchett e la collega di David dell’epoca, Anya Wilson. Ad accompagnare il libro principale c’è una riproduzione compilata di 36 pagine dei taccuini personali di David dell’era Ziggy Stardust.
La prima traccia tratta da ROCK ‘N’ ROLL STAR! Ad anticiparne l’uscita sarà “ZIGGY STARDUST” (DEMO)” registrato da Bowie alla voce e alla chitarra acustica nel marzo 1971 alla Haddon Hall di Beckenham, release date digitale 21 Marzo.
